SCIENCE WORD OF THE WEEK!

SCIENCE WORD OF THE WEEK!!

swow insectivore

We sure had a great time celebrating Ellie’s birthday yesterday! Thank you to everyone who donated to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust! Now on to my favorite day of the week at the University of Ellie and Edmond!

It’s time to learn our Science Word of the Week! We’re talking about insectivores today! I’m an insectivore! I eat ants, termites and other small bugs. I use my long sticky tongue to extract my favorite eats from mounds, hills and trees!

Insectivore: a mammal or plant that primarily eats insects.

Yes, plants such as the Venus flytrap is not just a carnivore-it is an insectivore!

SCIENCE WORD OF THE WEEK!

SCIENCE WORD OF THE WEEK!

swow ominvore

We were suppose to have our Spring Photo Contest winners today- but we had difficulty with the internet this weekend at the University- so we will announce our winners tomorrow!

It’s Monday and that means it’s time to get back to class and talk about the science word of the week! We’ve learned about animals that are carnivores, herbivores and today’s word is Omnivore!

Omnivore: is an animal that eats both plants and animals. Omnivores are a very diverse group of animals, that include raccoons, crows, pigs, some monkeys and some species of fish! One of the most famous omnivores around is the brown bear! They eat a variety of fish, plants, nuts and berries!

SCIENCE WORD OF THE WEEK!

swow herbivore

It’s time for class again! We learned what carnivore is last week and today we’re talking Herbivores!

An Herbivore is an animal that only eats vegetation and or plant material. Ellie and Edmond are both herbivores! Herbivores come in all shapes and sizes! They can eat everything from grass, roots, bark, seeds, flowers and fruits.   Which herbivore is your favorite? I like giraffes! They have long tongues and necks that help them reach the leaves that no other animal can eat! Neat!

SCIENCE WORD OF THE WEEK

SCIENCE WORD OF THE WEEK!

It’s Monday and you know what that means- it’s a new week here at the University of E&E! Today we have a great science word of the week for you!

swow habitat

This week’s word is Habitat: is the natural home of animal, plant or other organism. Habitats come in many different sizes, climates and landscapes. Habitats can be small or large! One of my favorite habitats is the rainforest, that’s where we tamanduas live! Every animal and plant has a specific place in its habitat. They fill a need in that area. Do you have a favorite habitat?

Science Word of the Week

Science Word of the Week!

Welcome students! We’ll be holding class on Mondays from now on! Can you think of a better way to start your week? I know I can’t! Let’s get on with this week’s word!

nocturnal swow

Nocturnal: being active at night. Animals that are nocturnal are primarily active during the evening and night and sleep during the day. Animals have many reasons to be nocturnal; it helps protect them from predators, their prey may be nocturnal too and it helps them avoid the heat of the day.
