Chompy the shark is hanging out with us and sharing some fun facts about shark with us! Today- he’s talking the basics.
We are so happy to finish our first week at Camp E&E at the Beach with more fun bird species! These little funny shore birds have an even funnier name- the red knot!

Red Knot Fun Facts:

We love these little birds. How cool is that they migrate soooooo far! That trip must be exhausting- hehehe!
Happy Craft Day! We’re making little wood turtle magnets out of wood! Hehehe! Come join us in the craft tent!
Materials:

Wood circles of different sizes
Markers
Glue
Magnet
Instructions:
1)Color all your circles- (you need 1 large & 5 smaller ones for feet & head)

2)Glue the circles together to make a turtle

3) Glue on magnet

There is your wood turtle! Make him whatever color you like! Add glitter! Jazz him up!

We are meeting a creature that you often find sunning themselves on branches along the shore of Lake Salamander. These reptiles are called Wood Turtles- but guess what, they aren’t made of wood- hehehe.

Wood Turtle Fun Facts:

These neat little turtles are losing their habitats. That’s why intact and clean habitats like our lake here at camp are so important.
We headed to the coast line to meet one of the most iconic birds of Norway’s coastline- the Atlantic Puffin! These adorable birds are so much fun to watch. We wish one would come live with us the University.

Atlantic Puffin Fun Facts:

These amazing birds form large breeding colonies. They breed in the same place every year. Scientists are not sure how the birds navigate back to the same place yet.
We decided we haven’t met enough lizards on our trip so far and headed out to meet one with some most interesting scales. This reptile was a definite look don’t touch kind of creature. Get ready to learn more about them.

Giant Girdled Lizard Fun Facts:

We enjoyed spotting this little spiked lizard. It would be a smart predator to stay away from those scales.
We are feeling blue- just kidding! We’re off to meet one regal blue bird! In fact they are the national bird of South Africa! Are you ready to learn more about the blue crane? Let’s gooooo!

Blue Crane Fun Facts:

These elegant but funny looking cranes are so amazing. There are several organizations that are working to protect these neat birds, including the International Crane Foundation!
We headed out today with a local tracker to find a species that is critically endangered. We did find one of these special animals and we couldn’t wait to share more about them with you!

Geometric Tortoise Fun Facts:
We were super excited to spot this little rare tortoise. They are shy, so we had to be very quiet and patient. We were lucky to have such a great tracker with us. We wonder who we might find tomorrow.
